Spent most of the last week in Gothenburg, so decided to capitalise on the great weather last Friday and went up to Klippan on the ferry. From there, I walked a couple of kilometres to a great vantage point where I watched the sun drop behind the horizon. Aside from the plethora of mosquitoes on hand, the experience was very serene, as only Sweden can be.
Taken a short while after sunset, during the blue hour (as opposed to the golden hour of sunset), this is a view of Singapore. The tall buildings are part of the CBD (Central Business District), where I used to work. In the foreground, the illuminated white is the ArtScience Museum.
My lasting memory of taking this image is that I recall it being an especially warm evening, even for Singapore.
Last couple of shots from Iceland. On the day I finally completed my circumnavigation of the island on my trusty cycle, I went for a wonder around the shoreline of Reykjavik. I was treated to the most glorious light across the bay. The yellow light house a beacon at twilight just as it was at night.
Prior to arriving in the capital, I had camped on the shoreline of Jökulsárlón. This image was taken close to midnight. As Iceland is just south of the Arctic Circle, it has little darkness in the summer. However, even though it was meant to be the hottest time of the year, it was chilly, with temperatures still very much in single figures that evening.
Half an hour after the previous entry was taken, the Hong Kong skyline looked like this. Long exposure (16 seconds) has softened the water and sky. This was also taken from Kowloon, southwards towards Hong Kong island. Definitely one of my favourite places on earth.
Which cityscape would you photograph if you could choose anywhere to be?
Out walking around downtown Singapore a week ago and grabbed a shot of the cityscape just after the sun had dropped below the horizon. Still over thirty degrees even past 8pm but that’s life one degree from the equator.
Back in 2011, I was on assignment for Lonely Planet in South America, gathering some new shots for their online library. This was taken in the middle of nowhere in southern Bolivia, less than 100 miles form the Chilean and Argentinian borders, close to the Salar de Uyuni. It was late afternoon and the heat of the day in the altiplano desert was rapidly evapourating as the steely grip of night gathered traction.
Temperatures regularly drop to -20 degrees Celsius. That night was no exception.
Following on from my last shot of the day on August 10th, this shot was take a few hours earlier at Ayrmer Cove, just as the sun was setting behind the peninsula. The magic of the moment was having this entire beautiful scene to myself, something that rarely happens at sunset.
I had originally intended to photograph one of my favourite beaches in southern Devon but it was the wrong time of year for the sunset across the opening of the cove. Instead, I retraced my steps by a few miles to Ayrmer Cove and waited until around half an hour after the sun dropped below the horizon, to capture this long exposure shot.
